Underrated places in Vasai - Virar

To the north of Mumbai, there are three major stations: Vasai, Nalasopara and Virar. These locations are quite famous as tourist spots and for one day picnic. They have a number of beaches like Arnala, Kalamb, Rajodi, and other attractions like Jivdani Temple, Heritage Old Jain temple at Agashi, old Arnala Fort and Beach, Vasai Fort, and lots more.

Autos ply here without meter system. Local buses are also an option to reach your destination. attractions like


1. Arnala beach in Virar

Arnala beach in Virar (west) is famous as a one-day picnic spot. The transportation is good. The roads are good and the people friendly. There are many facilities and eateries here. This beach is worth visiting, but the only problem I find is the dirt and garbage lies uncleared at it's approach road. If the cleanliness is maintained, then it will rank amongst the top beaches visited by the people.



2. India’s only Saint Mother Teresa Church

India’s only Saint Mother Teresa Church is at Virar. Visit this place to be blessed. The modern saint Mother Teresa is the winner of the Prestigious Nobel prize. The Vatican has declared mother as the saint.


3. Tungareshwar in Vasai

Tungareshwar in Vasai is a Temple Waterfall. It lies in the green belt located at Vasai East is a great option for a nature walk, monsoon trails as it has a beautiful temple of Lord Shiva and waterfalls not far from Mumbai Ahmedabad National Highway. Frequented as Monsoon destination and an ideal location for a day picnic.


4. Chinchoti near Vasai/ Naigaon

Chinchoti near Vasai Naigaon stations is a beautiful Monsoon trial in nature with a huge waterfall of about 100 feet to spend an adventurous day. Chinchoti waterfalls is a one-day ideal hilly trek that starts at Kaman village junction.


5. Natural Sulphur Hot Water Springs at Vajreshwari in Virar

This Natural Hot Water Springs is also called ‘Garam Kund’. It is now the green belt and villages with hot springs, still sacred as per Hindu mythology and solution to multiple skin diseases.


6. Bhajan Lal Sons Dairy Farm


Bhajan Lal Sons Dairy Farm is located at the beginning of the Vasai Bhiwandi road, just off the Mumbai Ahmedabad National Highway.


This place is known for its pure desi ghee and various dairy products. One can enjoy the flavored lassi, mawa, khoya, pedas, etc. You can see the buffaloes being milked by the automated milking system. Bhajanlan & son’s famous dairy farm has its branches in Vasai and Mumbai.



7. Bena Beach, Vasai

Bena is a great destination for spending extraordinary time with your dear ones. Enjoy the factors of a hobby of this famous tourist spot. With plenty to entice your senses and offer you recreation at its best, get soaking moist in the spirit of the journey which you get to discover at Bena Beach, Vasai.


8. Nirmal


Nirmal is a holy place in Vasai. It has a number of temples and a lake situated on a hillock. It is said that Bhagwan Parshuram established Vimaleshwar Mandir and Vimala Sarovar. He established the 64 yoginis in and around Vasai. The yoginis were considered to be the devotees of His mother Goddess Renuka. He also established 108 Teertha Kundas or Pushkarinis in Vasai.


At the advent of Adi Shankaracharya in Nirmal around 497 BC, the Buddhist Monks were defeated in the debates and returned to the Vedic Fold. Hinduism in the Samvedis returned and they started strict following of the Vedic Dharma. They regarded Adi Shankara Jagadguru as their cardinal preacher. Further, as stated in Shree Shivlilamrut that Shankaracharya was born in Nirmal.


9. The Vasai Dock

The Vasai dock is an ancient dock used by the Portuguese and the English. Today it is used for fishing activities and for recreational boat rides. There are plans to ease the surface transport routes by the waterways.


In a few years, ferry service routes of the Multi-Corridor Inland Water Transport System will be ready. A pollution free eco-friendly, less crowded, fuel-saving, faster and cheaper ferry ride from Thane as a centre point that connects Kalyan to Vasai.


10. Panju Island

Panju Island is an estuarine island in the Vasai Creek just north of Mumbai. The island is used by the Western Railway to connect the island of Salsette with the mainland at Vasai.


Panju (Island) village is located in the Vasai creek, positioned between western railway’s Naigaon & Bhayandar stations. It is an ancient village. All the monetary transactions were carried from this village at the time of Shri Chimaji Aappa. This Village has given twenty-three freedom fighters.


The area of Panju Island is around 600 acres, Aagri community dwells here. The main profession of the community is farming, fishing, salt farming & manual sand evacuations. There's a primary school as well as Government recognized secondary school.
