6 Indian snacks you MUST eat during rains

Rain is beautiful and so is the appetizing aroma of the snacks cooked during this season. In monsoon, one has to be discreet regarding food intake. But stomach craves for the snacks. Therefore freshly made home snacks are the best option.

1. Samosa

There are different types of samosas. I know of three types. The Punjabi samosa, the pattiwala samosa, and the mini samosa. Here the Punjabi samosa is the king. The taste of the samosa depends on its fillings and the way it is fried. Samosa with green chutney or tomato sauce adds joy to the rains. Viewing the heavy rain from the window and eating a samosa or two is so delightful.

2. Pakodas

No other snack can compete with the hot Kanda Bhajiyas. When they are properly cooked, they look and taste so good. The reddish-brown crispy onion pakodas have such nice aroma. Again green chutney is what we need. The local pav adds value to this snack. If eaten moderately, you don't have to worry about the calories.

3. The Vada pav

You can call it the Mumbai burger (or not it's all up to you). The street stalls are the best makers of this humble snack. But unfortunately, it's not safe to eat there in the rainy season. The reasons are obvious. So if someone is a fairly experienced cook, then vada pav can be cooked equally well at home. It can be eaten with sweet and hot chutney. Do not forget to smear the pav with the red dry ghati chutney. The very sight of the vada gets our mouth to water.

4. Sweet corn

Roasted on charcoal sweet corn can never be forgotten in this season. After it is evenly roasted, it has to be rubbed with a piece lemon dipped in salt and red chilly powder. The result is magical. The sweetness of corn blends with the things rubbed on it to create the great taste. The stem of the corn is handy in holding it. When eaten outside, before giving, they wrap it up with the corn leaves. If you are not eating this God sent snack, then it is really sad.

5. Masala chai

Who can miss this blessing on a rainy day? Tea they say after water is the most consumed drink in the world. After the snacks, drinking tea is a tradition in our country. The masala tea gives us a sharp taste which clears our food pipe. It makes us fresh again. Sipping tea from your favorite cup while it's raining, gives a strange feeling of well being. I have often heard people ordering tea saying, "Ek kadak cutting chai".

6. Maggi noodles

The .Maggi masala 2 minutes noodles remind me of my school days. The piping hot noodles in the rainy season are so soothing. Eating them with a fork gives the required warmth. The masala flavor lingers even after we have eaten it. You can even make it soupy by adding more water. Trust me I'm having this right now while watching a beautiful rainfall outside my window. It's heavenly.

So, enjoy yourself with the snacks this rainy season. If you are calorie cautious, then too consuming them in moderation will do no harm. Life is dull with little fun. Snacks are always welcomed during the days of rain.
