Food and nutrition play an important role in our life. We all need food to survive. It is one of our basic necessities. Our life's function and growth largely depend on the quality of the food we eat. There are people who overeat and there are people who are malnourished. One needs to strike a balance in our food consumption.
Once you start eating healthy there's no going back. Speaking from personal experience, eating healthy makes me feel light & makes me float (not literally, but you get the idea). When I eat things like a healthy sandwich or salad or start my day with a nice nutritious smoothie I feel happy & energetic the entire day. My mind & my body feel like they finally are working in coordination. Contrary to that when I eat a lot of heavy unhealthy food I feel lazy the entire day. Maybe I had a cheese burst pizza or may I had a big slice of cake, I will spend the entire day lollygagging. It's not just with me but with so many people around me I observed. If you try and recall you might be one us too.
Well, this does not mean I don't crave junk food or unhealthy food. I do. I have days where I want to eat that scrumptious bar of Snickers or Twix & I'm not going to lie, I do eat. The catch is I eat in moderation. Eating a little piece of your favorite chocolate is not a big deal trust me. You can work out and get rid of that fat. Things in moderation are healthy, everything in excess is unhealthy.
The following are some healthy foods that you can include in your diet & see your life change for better!
1.Fruits and vegetables
Fruit and vegetables should be an important part of our daily diet. They are naturally good and contain vitamins and minerals that can help to keep our body healthy. They can also help protect against diseases.
There are many varieties of fruits and vegetables available and also there are ways to prepare them. One should eat at least five servings of vegetables and two serves of fruit each day.
2. Whole grains
Whole grains are packed with nutrients including protein, fiber, B vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals like iron, zinc, copper, and magnesium. A diet rich in whole grains is said to reduce the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and some forms of cancer.
3.Low-fat dairy products
Dairy items have impressive levels of many of calcium and protein. I'm sorry to say that ice cream falls a bit short on these two nutrients, but low-fat milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, and reduced-fat cheese pack a protein and calcium punch in every serving. Just a cup of lite nonfat yogurt, for example, gives a third of our daily recommended calcium along with 17% of estimated daily protein.
4. Meat, Poultry, and Fish
In general, red meats (beef, pork, and lamb) have more saturated (bad) fat than chicken and fish. Saturated and trans fats can raise blood cholesterol and make heart disease worse.
The unsaturated fats in fish, such as salmon, actually have health benefits. Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fish is a heart-healthy diet that can help reduce the risk of heart disease, cardiac arrest, and the most common type of stroke.
Well, if you are a vegetarian, worry not! Here are some substitutes you can consume: Tofu, Jackfruit, Pulses, sunflower & pumpkin seeds, soya bean, nuts, etc.
5. Beans
There are many types of beans and they all are good for health. Kidney beans, lentils, split peas, and black-eyed peas are all beneficial for health. They can be prepared without saturated and trans fats for a healthy meal.
So, let's get healthy by choosing food that helps in making our life better
