Maria's Goan Eatery And Kitchen, Vasai(w)

Every time I think of Goa, my mind gets flooded with some of the sweetest memories I cherish about this wonderful state. One of my priorities while holidaying in Goa, is to try out real Goan food. So, when I came to know that there is Maria's Goan Eatery...opened at Vasai, I was super excited. Vasai (also nicknamed as mini Goa), has now Goan food eatery in the real sense.

The cuisine of Goa originated and is influenced by the 450 years of Portuguese colonisation. Many Catholic dishes are variants of their Portuguese counterparts.

Goa is well known as a jewel for the gastronomic traveller, is influenced by Portuguese cuisine. The cuisine of Goan people is mostly seafood-based; the staple foods are rice and fish. Commonly eaten seafood includes kingfish, pomfret, crabs, tuna, sardines, prawns and mackerel.

Spread at Maria's Goan Bakery in Vasai

We visited this really cute and tiny cafe located at Parnaka in Vasai. The ambience is cosy and the interiors are old school with a very aesthetic Goan vibe. We ordered Prawns Rechadeo (₹239), Chicken Cafreal (₹209) and Ros Omelette (₹125). We were served with Poee (or poi), the famous Goan pao (bread) which is perfect for mopping up the curries.

For dessert, we tried caramel custard. We could taste authenticity, the tanginess and spicy flavour of the Goan food! Believe me, it made me feel that I was at Goa while I was in Vasai!! I really appreciate these people to bring to us the genuine Goa cuisine at our own Vasai. There are a number of authentic Goan dishes on the menu. In my frank opinion, the food I ate was fantastic. The service is quick and courteous.

Cost wise the Goan food served here is pretty reasonable, but it also depends on what you wish to eat. I also got messages later saying that the sandwiches served here are great. I will definitely try them next time!

So, plan your visit to this venue and feel like being in Goa!!
