All about Tungareshwar Trek in Vasai

Updated: Mar 15, 2021

Tungareshwar, a green belt situated over 2000 feet above sea level, is a part of Vasai East. It is a wonderful place for trekking. Monsoon and just after is an ideal time to be there. Tungareshwar is well known for its temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located about 3 kilometers from the Tungareshwar Phata. It opens in the morning at 5:00 am and is open for darshan up to 6:00 pm. A further climb from here leads us to Balayogi Shri Sadanand Maharaj Ashram. This ashram is managed by a trust.

The trek is full of nature's bounties with plenty of small waterfalls which are a treat to a nature lover. One will meet a lot of monkeys, see plenty of birds, insects, and butterflies on the way. The greenery and the purest of air to breathe in will give you much-needed relief from your mundane daily routine. For Mumbaikars, it is not far from Mumbai Ahmedabad National Highway at a distance of about 25 Km from Borivali, Mumbai.

The area is declared as Tungareshwar Forest Park. The forest area is 85.70 square kilometers. It is covered under Law and Forest act 1972, so all the forest laws are to be followed while visiting Tungareshwar. It's our duty to maintain the decorum and cleanliness during the entire visit.

We find Tungareshwar crowded on Mondays. Tungareshwar also attracts devotees on special occasions and festival seasons like Khodiyar Jayanti (in February) and Maha Shivratri (between July and August) every year.
