On 5th October 2020, the Maharashtra State Government relaxed the lockdown further by allowing the Pubs and Restaurants to open 50 % of their capacity. Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, all the eateries and bars had remained shut from the third week of March 2020. The dine-in has now started after a long unprecedented closure of seven months.
On the 9th October 2020, we visited The Post Office Bistro and Bar in Vasai (West) Koliwada, opposite the Chimmaji Appa ground. It is open between 11:30 am – 10:30 pm.
This place is popular for its casual dining with - North Indian, Chinese, Continental, and Asian food. Before the lockdown, they have a 10-page food menu card to choose from. Paneer Chettinad, Schezwan Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Chatpata, Jerk Chicken, Afghani Chicken, Tandoori Lollipop are the most ordered food items.
As you approach the restaurant, you will need to sanitize your hands, body temperature will be checked and you are required to fill a form entering details regarding your name, the number of persons accompanying you, your mobile number, recent travel history and your present health condition. Then they allot the table number to you. Before you are ushered to the table, your What's App on the mobile phone will already receive the menu!! The prices of food items are quite reasonable.
Alternate tables are allotted for dining. The table next to yours, you will see a clear instruction: 'Do not sit here'. On your table, you will find plates and spoons wrapped in a transparent plastic sheet as an added precautionary measure. The waiters are seen wearing mask, gloves and a face shield. They take your orders and bring the meals, but they do not serve you the meal. You have to do that.
We ordered zaafrani masaledar lollipops as the starter and stirfry sizzler. Red wine was also ordered. The taste and the food garnish was excellent. The service as usual was good. The feeling of dining out after such a long time made the occasion special.
This restaurant gives you the retro or old times feeling. This is due to the arrangements of the props like the post boxes, the old cycle, old things like the audio and video cassettes and the tungsten bulbs. As the name suggests, you do feel being in a Post Office of the yesteryears.
We really enjoyed our day. I would give full marks to this place. If you want to chill out with your friends, then I recommend The Post Office Bistro and Bar.
